Custom Rod Lenses

Rod lenses are cylindrical optical elements with polished end faces, commonly used for beam delivery, endoscopy, relay optics, and GRIN lens applications. The simple cylindrical geometry provides excellent transmission with minimal aberrations for on-axis applications.

Our configurator below provides instant online quoting for custom rod lenses in N-BK7 (H-K9L) and UV Fused Silica (JGS1) materials. You can specify diameter (2-100mm) and length (5-300mm) with aspect ratio limits up to 30:1, and select optional AR coatings for the end faces.

Rod lenses are constrained by aspect ratio (length ÷ diameter) due to manufacturing limitations. Rods with aspect ratios exceeding 30:1 become too fragile during grinding and polishing. The configurator dynamically adjusts the maximum length based on your selected diameter.

Note: It costs about as much to make one custom lens as it does to make ten, hence the minimum order quantity is 10 pieces. Large price drops occur as volume increases to 100 units.
